LET US RUN WITH ENDURANCE THE RACE THAT LIES BEFORE US, FIXING OUR EYES ON JESUS, THE PIONEER & PERFECTER OF FAITH. -Hebrews 12:1-2
Pioneer has been my word for this upcoming season & Hebrews 12:2 has been my pioneering verse.
This summer has been a whirlwind of work, travel, joy, family, & adventure, but something was missing & I couldn’t quite put my finger on it. I was so busy finishing up a semester filled with many blessings & jumping with both feet into an even busier summer. I didn’t realize I was running out of steam fast. I had my heart set on Hebrews 12:2, but when I backed up and read verse 1, I realized I had left out an important part.
I needed to rest.
This rest wasn’t just sleep–it was the kind of rest only Jesus can give.
Hebrews 12:1 says “let us run with patient endurance.” Patient endurance comes with resting. Pioneers cannot keep going if they do not rest. On the 7th day God rested, & He wants us to rest too.
It’s taken every ounce of humility in me to admit that I needed to slow down & breathe. I used to think resting meant weakness or laziness. Now my perspective has changed. More than anything I needed to take a deep breath & reflect on this new season—where I’ve been & where I’m going.
I also knew I needed direction. To be honest, I didn’t know how to rest & I’m still not great at it. I asked God to show me how to rest, not really knowing what to expect.
Soon after, I came across Rebekah Lyon’s Rhythms of Grace series about R E S T. I found Rebekah on a whim—I’m honestly not sure how, but I know now the Lord was answering my call for rest.
So I signed up to receive Rebekah’s ten-day series in my e-mail. Of course, it took me way longer than ten days to finish it—I resist rest by nature & it took time to get into the rhythms of rest. I’ve learned lots over these last weeks about rest & it’s changed my outlook on so many things that I’d love to share with you!
In the next few posts I’ll be digging into rest & sharing little revelations I’ve learned & how it’s guiding me on my pioneer journey.
I hope you’ll join me—Let’s encourage one another in finding rest!
