——- ISAIAH 30:21 // Your own ears will hear Him. Right behind you a voice will say, “This is the way you should go,” whether to the right or to the left.
Hands off the reins—Jesus reigns! So often I think the harder & faster I go, the more I can get done in a day, but God tells me something better. In my walk through studies of rest with Rebekah Lyons, she shared truth that stands out in my mind daily :: “initiate nothing & watch what God can do.” In times of pausing, resting, & abiding, God shows us things we would have missed caught up in the race. When we pull over & hand the reins to God, He takes us places we never knew we could go before.
In my pioneer journey, I’m learning pioneers of the Lord must live in boldness & surrender — with humility to give up all control & handing over the ropes to the ultimate Pioneer of all. He’s the Captain of this journey I’m voyaging, holding the reigns, adjusting the sails, guiding my every footstep. Pioneers know God’s way is perfect, even if it doesn’t match their own roadmap. Trust is the greatest navigation, with faith at the wheel & humble obedience at the pedals. God works wonders in these times of rest along the journey as I slow down enough to hear Him speak.
I picture this act of surrendering like releasing handfuls of sand & shells into the ocean—releasing all of those things in life we’re striving for, seeing the waves swallow them up, & waiting with all the patience & faith in the depths of the sea to see what washes back onto shore. In the midst of waves crashing and overturned sand, we wait for the tides to settle. Then, in the stillness of that resting moment in between waves, God speaks.
In this stillness I’m reminded that God cares more about my presence than my performance. Resting doesn’t mean I have to stop doing God’s work & lay around all day, but it’s the act of giving my work over to Him & resting in His presence the midst of the journey. It’s a posture of surrendering & following & abiding—a whole new rhythm that breaks free from the world’s never ending demands for success.
——- PSALM 107:30 //What a blessing was that stillness as He brought them safely to harbor.
